Reacher is an adaptation of Lee Child’s novels, in which the showrunners found a successful replacement for Tom Cruise. The series will appeal to those who miss the old action movies with criminal investigations. In it, the protagonist tries to get to the bottom of the truth and without remorse punishes the villains, laughing it off during a fight.

Jack Reacher gets off the bus, walks down the highway, enters a diner, orders a peach pie, and takes a sip of coffee. A minute later, armed policemen appear at the door, who arrest the hero in front of other visitors.

Reacher arrived in the small town of Margrave just an hour ago and is already being charged with murder. For the locals, he is a stranger without things and documents, which, by its very appearance, arouses suspicion. But Jack is calm and quick-witted – while behind bars, he analyzes the details of the crime better than local investigators. Therefore, the hero is forced to stay to help solve the case. More murders soon occur, and Reacher develops a personal motive for investigating the accidents.

The plot of the series is based on the book “Death Floor” – this is the first detective novel by Lee Child, dedicated to a retired military man who leads a nomadic life and constantly attracts trouble (the writer has published more than 20 books about Reacher since the late 1990s).

Interestingly, Lee Child introduces readers to Jack Reacher as a large man weighing about 100 kg, 195 cm tall and with biceps “like basketballs.” When Paramount Pictures released two films with Tom Cruise as Reacher, fans of the books were indignant – maybe Cruise feels confident in action films, but the actor clearly does not fit the description of the character. The filmmakers could only make excuses, saying that it is simply impossible to find a suitable artist.

However, Amazon launched a series that was able to prove the opposite – there is a person who looks like book Jack Reacher. His name is Alan Ritchson, and he fits this role not only in appearance. Ritchson conveys the unshakable calm of the hero, which is combined with short ironic remarks that characterize the situation. In a word, in the frame is not just a thug who knocks out opponents with one blow of his head. The actor makes the character charming – and this is exactly what Tom Cruise lacked in feature films .

In the series, Jack Reacher goes into a scam on a grand scale, starting with little evidence. The hero becomes a partner for the chief investigator Oscar Finley – a prim man in a tweed suit, who recently arrived in Margrave from a larger city, not having managed to earn the favor of the locals.

Men often argue, give each other mocking compliments and cannot agree on the choice of music to play in the car. However, Finlay always listens to Reacher’s opinion when he uses deduction (just like Sherlock Holmes, which can be a little funny at first, but you get used to it as the story progresses).

Reacher, who until recently was a suspect, is looked after by a police officer named Roscoe – from the first meeting she sympathizes with the former military man, revealing the secrets of the investigation to him. But other characters see the alien as a threat that needs to be eliminated as soon as possible.

Reacher creator Nick Santora ( The Sopranos ) set the series in the spirit of old action films – here the crime detective is combined with laid-back humor, and the search for evidence often ends in a fight. The protagonist adapts to any situation and does not lose hope that he will be able to try the same peach pie from which he was unceremoniously distracted.

The clue at the end of the season won’t be too shocking, but it’s quite interesting to go to it along with three heroes. True, the plot is sometimes lost in a large number of names – it is difficult to remember them, especially if you watch the series in several approaches (if you like the atmosphere of the series, this will not be a hindrance).

By the way, Amazon has already renewed Reacher for a second season, having seen the positive reaction of the audience to the series.
