After Russia occupied the Transnistrian region of Moldova 30 years ago, the aggressor country uses part of the ammunition located there for combat training, and part for smuggling.
In addition, today Russia is ready to use the territory of Transnistria as an additional springboard for aggression not only against Ukraine, but also against Moldova.
This was stated by the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Vadym Skibitsky.
He noted that 30 years ago Russia occupied the territory of Pridnestrovie and annually conducts mobilization exercises there with a task force of its troops deployed on this territory.
“During the exercises, defensive and counter-offensive actions are practiced using ammunition from warehouses in the village of Kolbasnaya. Some of the ammunition is used for combat training, and some, according to military intelligence, for smuggling ,” the military intelligence representative said.
He also assessed that the current situation in the unrecognized Transnistria is an obvious signal of the readiness of the Russian Federation to use the territory of the region as an additional springboard for possible aggression against Moldova.
“We are monitoring the development of the situation in Pridnestrovie. There is now a serious struggle between government officials and the special services of the Russian Federation are working very actively,” Skibitsky said.
“The terrorist acts committed on the territory of the PMR were aimed at forcing the Pridnestrovian leadership to agree to the expansion of the presence of Russian troops . In addition, explosions at facilities will be presented as a threat to the population of the region and a signal to the leadership of the Republic of Moldova to abandon the pro-European policy. The main goal is to leave this region is completely under the control of Moscow , as it has been trying to do for 30 years,” the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense explained.
He noted that the terrorist attacks committed in Pridnestrovie are a characteristic feature of the Russian FSB. According to intelligence, everything that happens on the territory of the unrecognized republic is under the control of Russian secret services.
Recall, Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that in Romania, the American BTG “Stryker Brigade” approached the border of Moldova due to the aggravation in the unrecognized Transnistria. At the same time, an airfield in the self-proclaimed republic is being prepared for the possible landing of Russian military aircraft.
