Samsung unexpectedly announced plans to “create its own unique chipsets for Galaxy smartphones.” This was announced today by Roh Tae-moon during a meeting with employees. The fact is that the current Exynos chips are not exactly the brainchild of Samsung: in 2019, the company disbanded the team to develop its own Mongoose processor cores, which have been used since 2016, starting with the Exynos 8890 in the Galaxy S7. They were replaced by typical ARM Cortex cores, which formed the basis of the Exynos 990 and the models following it.
Presumably, this decision is due to the ongoing criticism of Exynos chipsets, which fall into the flagship Galaxy smartphones, but are noticeably inferior in performance to models based on Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. There are no details of the project to revive their own cores yet.
