We continue to study the results of the market in 2021. Earlier we looked at the situation with smartphones in the global and European markets, and now it’s the turn of the tablet segment. From the report provided by IDC specialists, it follows that over the past year, the global supply of tablets increased by 3.2% and amounted to 168.8 million devices. At the same time, just like a year ago, Apple was the main driver of growth: its market share in 2021 increased to 34.2% (+8.4%), and sales amounted to 57.8 million devices. Samsung is almost twice behind it, having managed to sell 30.9 million tablets with a total market share of 18.3%, and its growth dynamics is also half as much: +3.8%. But Lenovo and Amazon, on the contrary, are ready to boast of a double-digit increase in sales (+19.2% and 15.1%), while occupying 10.5% and 9.5% of the market, respectively.
Report for 2021
Huawei, on the other hand, maintains a negative trend, even when combined with Honor: the total share of companies decreased from 9.8% a year earlier to 5.7%, and deliveries sank to 9.7 million units (-39.5%). The report also includes data for the fourth quarter of 2021, which saw a wholesale decline in sales compared to 2020, even for Apple. Analysts at IDC attribute this to the passage of the peak in tablet sales, however, expecting continued increased demand compared to the period before the pandemic.
