Vivo introduced the budget smartphone Y15s to the Ukrainian market. As befits a modern novelty, the device looks stylish and bright, despite the affordable price tag. The creators of the model saved on hardware and ports, but still put a smart side fingerprint scanner. Read the review below for details, pros and cons.

Packaging and equipment
Vivo Y15s comes in a neat white box. Inside: the smartphone itself with a film already pasted, a transparent silicone case with a plug, a microUSB cable, a 10 W power supply, a warranty, instructions and a paper clip to open the slot.
Design and usability
Vivo Y15s received a plastic case with rounded edges on the back. The back cover of the model is covered with perforated stripes. The color is matte, but with some special coating that creates unusual highlights on the lid. On such a texture, dust, fingerprints and other traces of use are not visible at all.
Immediately, on the back panel, there is the Vivo inscription and a dual main camera with a flash, which is located on a platform slightly extended from the case.
Despite the impressive 5000 mAh battery, the Vivo Y15s has a fairly thin body (8.3 mm) and a light weight of 179 grams. The device fits perfectly in the hand, does not pull it away after a long use and does not slip out thanks to the strips on the back cover mentioned above.
The SIM card slot is located on the top of the smartphone. It is designed for a microSD memory card and two Nano-SIM. All of these are used at the same time.
The left side of the device is not occupied by anything. On the right are the volume keys and the screen lock button with a fingerprint scanner built into it. The fingerprint sensor works great and responds almost instantly. For additional smartphone security, there is a not so fast, but still working, face recognition scanner.
The bottom end is occupied by a microUSB port, a microphone, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a speaker.
Vivo Y15s display
Vivo Y15s is equipped with a 6.51-inch waterdrop notch IPS screen with a resolution of 1600×720 pixels. Dots per inch here 270 ppi. Aspect ratio 20:9. Refresh rate 60 Hz.
The display has a customizable color temperature, a dark theme and eye protection, and adaptive brightness. You can turn on the splash screen if you want.
The Vivo Y15s screen turned out to be quite bright and juicy, as for IPS. But compared to AMOLED, of course, it is faded and with a noticeable lack of contrast. If you have previously used an AMOLED model, the Y15s display will be noticeably darker and the colors dull. But if you have always had devices with IPS-matrices, then you are unlikely to see the difference.
Sound
Vivo Y15s has one speaker on the bottom edge. It sounds loud, but the playback quality is mediocre. There are no low frequencies and this is almost always the norm even for expensive smartphones. Surround sound is also not visible, as well as adequate sounding of medium and high.
In music and commercials, the sound is muffled with speech distortion, but you can get used to this and after a few days of use you almost stop noticing it. The main advantage of the speaker is that it literally yells when you make a call, so it will be heard wherever the device is located. Great solution for mothers, grandmothers, children and so on.
Wireless connection is via Bluetooth 5.0. Also, do not forget about the 3.5 mm audio jack for wired headphones or listening to FM radio (by the way, it does not work without headphones). Music sounds good on headphones. Neither worse nor, of course, better than a smartphone does not make it.
Camera Vivo Y15s
Vivo Y15s received a dual main camera with 13 and 2 megapixel sensors. The main module is wide with autofocus. The second is needed to create the bokeh effect and shoot macro.
There is no night shooting in the camera, but there are various beautifiers, PRO mode, panorama and so on.
Photo and video resolution 720p or 1080p. In cutscenes, it’s always 30 frames per second. There is no optical or electronic stabilization. See sample photos and videos below.
For a phone priced at 4,000 hryvnia, the Vivo Y15s camera shoots well. But this is if you turn on HDR and take a photo in sufficient light. It turns out well and almost without “noise”.
At night, the pictures are mediocre, with a lot of artifacts and often blurry.
The front camera of the model has a resolution of 8 megapixels. It also shoots badly at night, but during the day or with sufficient lighting, it is more or less tolerable. There is even a bokeh effect.
Performance, software and games
Vivo Y15s is powered by a 12nm quad-core Mediatek MT6765 processor. He is Helio P35. PowerVR GE8320 is responsible for the graphics. The model has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of permanent memory.
Such a modest layout still allows the smartphone to run modern games. True, at low graphics settings, but without jamming and with a stable frame rate. Vivo Y15s performed well in Brawl Stars, which is not surprising at all. Things were also not bad in World of Tanks, Wild Rift and Call of Duty Mobile. In tanks and the shooter, fps did not fall below 50 frames, and in the mobile version of League of Legend it kept a stable 30 fps.

The smartphone did not receive an NFC module for contactless payments. But there is A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and BDS, as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n.
In general, Vivo Y15s showed decent results for a budget smartphone. The device pulls modern games and at the same time does not lag, but it only heats up slightly and does not troll. This is a model for a wide range of applications, which will suit almost everyone who is looking for an affordable solution.
Vivo Y15s is powered by the lightweight Android 11 (Go edition) operating system. On top of it is the proprietary Funtouch 11.1 add-on. By design, it is similar to “pure” Android.
The interface is nice and clear. Slowdowns during use are rarely seen and always only when watching videos. For example, when starting YouTube. The rest of the shell is nimble and responsive. There are no complaints for such a price tag, and all thanks to Android 11 (Go edition). The normal version of the OS would obviously load the smartphone more.
Autonomy Vivo Y15s
Vivo Y15s is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery. Fast charging was not brought up, and the complete power supply provides only 10 watts of power. The smartphone is fully charged in three hours. Discharges in a day or two, depending on the level of use.
You can drain the battery with games in seven hours. When watching 1080p videos, he will sit down somewhere in 12-14 hours. If you use a smartphone in an average daily mode with a camera, video, applications, games and surfing the Internet, then the charge easily lasts for a day and a half.
Cost and competitors
With a price tag of Vivo Y15s from 3677 hryvnias, the model has the following competitors. One of the main ones is Tecno Spark 5 Pro . At the same price, the smartphone has 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM, and the main camera sensor is 16 MP. It is also worth paying attention to Xiaomi Redmi 9C NFC . The device received only 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of permanent memory, but it has NFC, similar cameras, the same powerful battery and about the same chip in power.
Worthy of attention are realme C11 2021 and Motorola E7 Power . Smartphones have almost the same specifications as Vivo Y15s, but more RAM and ROM for the same price tag.
