To date, almost all the buildings at the branched Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, where the Ukrainian military is holding the defense, have been destroyed. This is evidenced by new satellite photos from Maxar Technologies.
There are large holes in the roofs of Azovstal – a sign of a military strike. Some of the plant’s roofs have completely collapsed, and some buildings have been reduced to rubble.
CNN writes about it.
Many residential and government buildings immediately to the east of the plant were also completely destroyed.
It should be noted that Ukrainian troops and hundreds of residents of Mariupol hid and are now in the deep cellars of Azovstal. It is not clear from satellite imagery taken on April 30 whether any of the military installations or from the plant’s basement facilities have been destroyed.
The commander of the Azov Regiment, Svyatoslav Palamar, told the publication that the plant was heavily shelled from artillery, ships and airstrikes.
“There are basements and bunkers that we can’t get to because they are under rubble. We don’t know if people are alive there or not. There are children from four months to 16 years old. But there are people who are stuck in places where you can’t get to “, said Palamar.
Recall that on April 28, Russian troops destroyed the underground hospital at Azovstal with airstrikes. As a result, the concrete structure of the building fell on the wounded defenders. More than 600 people were injured in the strikes.
