Equipment

Planetary mixer Hyundai HYM-S6551 arrived to us in two boxes at once. The model name, weight and dimensions of the packed device are printed on the top, protective box made of unpainted cardboard.

From the first box we took out the second, made of glossy cardboard with a large color photograph of the mixer and pictograms that give an idea of the main advantages of the device. The sides of the packaging are printed with technical specifications, photographs of optional accessories and the manufacturer’s address.

Inside the box, the mixer is tightly fixed with foam inserts. There are no carrying handles on any of the boxes.

Hyundai HYM-S6551 package includes:

  • mixer
  • bowl (4.5 l)
  • bowl lid
  • spatula for mixing
  • dough hook
  • whisk for whisking
  • cooking silicone spatula
  • separator for proteins and yolks
  • instruction manual with warranty card

At first sight

Thanks to its neutral silver color and pleasant laconic design, the Hyundai HYM-S6551 planetary mixer will harmoniously fit into the interior of kitchens of various styles.

The classic design consists of a base with a base in which a bowl (bowl) is fixed and a folding part (engine compartment) with a shaft for attaching nozzles.

On the front side of the device there is a gearshift knob with a circular LED backlight and a lever for fixing the engine compartment.

To raise the engine compartment, you need to move the lever to the leftmost position, after which the movable part of the body leans back (about 45 °) back. This happens quite abruptly, so it is worth holding it with your hand. It descends smoothly, when you press the lock lever, by pressing from above.

The 1.3 m power cord is attached at the bottom rear of the chassis. The mixer does not have a compartment for storing and winding the cord.

At the bottom there are four suction cups with a diameter of 2.5 cm. The suction cups provide a strong adhesion of the device to the table surface. At the same time, it is not difficult to tear the mixer from the furniture and rearrange it to another place. Also on the bottom are ventilation holes and a sticker with technical specifications.

The shaft-spindle for interchangeable nozzles is located on the inside of the folding part. The nozzles are put on the steel shaft in an intuitive way: by aligning the grooves on the shaft with the protrusions on the nozzle, you need to insert it all the way and turn it counterclockwise.

The 4.5 liter bowl is placed in the base of the body with a bayonet connection. The bowl is firmly fixed in the body.

The shape of the stainless steel bowl is typical – the cylindrical walls turn into a sphere with a cone-shaped protrusion at the bottom. The bowl comes with a transparent plastic lid with a special hole for adding ingredients during operation.

Hyundai HYM-S6551 has a standard set of attachments: a spatula for mixing, a hook for kneading dough and a whisk for whipping. Nozzles outwardly look like silumin (except for the whisk). Their shape is normal, without features.

The whisk strings are steel and the base is plastic. The mixing paddle is slightly curved around its axis.

From additional accessories: a silicone spatula and a plastic separator of the egg white and yolk.

We have no complaints about the build quality. Every detail is well made and looks to be of good quality. The visual inspection of the Hyundai HYM-S6551 planetary mixer left us with a good impression.

Instruction

The instruction manual is an A5 brochure. printed on thick glossy paper. Information about the device occupies 10 pages, the remaining 4 – warranty card and fields for notes.

After reading the manual, you can learn about safety measures, about the device of the mixer, as well as find tips on how to use and care for it. Information about the technical characteristics in the instructions is invited to look at the device case. A separate table contains recommendations for choosing the optimal speed for each nozzle, as well as the maximum time for continuous operation and the maximum amount of processed ingredients.

Control

Planetary mixer Hyundai HYM-S6551 operates in 8 modes. Additionally, you can use the pulse mode, in which the nozzles rotate immediately at maximum speed. The adjustment knob is in its usual place, the rotation is step-by-step, with each switch a slight click is heard.

To activate the pulse mode, move the regulator to the leftmost position up to “P” and hold it there. When released, the knob will return to “0” and turn off.

The speed control of the mixer connected to the mains is beautifully illuminated by a blue LED.

Exploitation

Following the manufacturer’s recommendations, before the first use, we washed and dried all removable parts of the mixer. Then we fixed the necessary nozzle on the spindle and installed the bowl in the socket at the base of the body.

The planetary mixer has three attachments:

  • the hook is designed for kneading dense unleavened or yeast dough
  • spatula for mixing, it is also a beater nozzle, suitable for making mashed potatoes, batter, sauces, and mixing minced meat
  • whisk whisks eggs, cream, creams and mousses

About the minimum number of ingredients in the instruction manual does not say anything. During testing, we determined that it would not work to beat less than 4 egg whites.

Regarding the maximum load of products, the instructions provide the following information:

  • dough hook – 600 g flour and 323 g water
  • spatula for mixing – 400 g flour and 500 g water
  • whisk – 15 egg whites

The mixer bowl is not small (4.5 l), and after testing, the recommended volumes of products for processing seem to be slightly underestimated.

The manufacturer draws our attention to the fact that the maximum continuous operation of the dough hook and whisk is 5 minutes, after which the mixer needs to rest for 10 minutes. The mixing paddle is continuously ready to work and even less – 3 minutes. In the egg whites test, the whisk mixer worked for us for 12 minutes with a break of a minute, while it did not turn off and did not overheat. However, we still do not recommend doing so.

The device turned out to be convenient, simple and quite effective. The only caveat that we noticed during the practical tests was the not quite careful capture of the ingredients during whipping and kneading from the bottom of the bowl. A couple of times, in tests with beating eggs and kneading dough, I had to stop the mixer, lift the contents of the bowl from the bottom with a spatula and mix lightly. But in general, the mixer did a good job with all the tasks.

Care

After each use, parts of the mixer that have come into contact with food should be washed immediately. The dishwasher is not suitable for this. The attachments, bowl and plastic lid should be washed by hand with warm water and a mild detergent. Abrasive compounds are prohibited. The surface of the housing, if necessary, is wiped with a damp cloth or sponge. Under no circumstances should the motor unit be placed under running water.

Our measurements

For the entire period of operation of the device, the power did not rise above 169 W, including in the pulsed mode. In standby mode, the device consumes 0.2 W.

The noise level is average, even at maximum speed the mixer does not create discomfort.

practice tests

Mashed potatoes

To evaluate the speed regimes when working at low speeds, we prepared mashed potatoes. Boiled 1.5 kg of potatoes and, draining the water, placed in a bowl. Added some butter. We installed a mixing paddle and turned on the first speed.

After a minute and a half, the potatoes were already well ground. Added hot milk and continued to observe the operation of the mixer. It seemed to us that the nozzle rotated too quickly. After 2 minutes, when the puree was already ready, we saw that the consistency was correct. So, the speed was not excessive.

Excellent, airy puree. There were almost no small unground lumps. It is also worth noting that we never had to help the mixer with a silicone spatula, since the nozzle during rotation did not scatter the potatoes along the walls and successfully captured the contents of the bowl at the bottom.

Result: excellent.

Dense unleavened dough and kneading minced meat (vertuta with minced meat)

This recipe will allow you to use two nozzles at once: a hook for kneading dough and a spatula already familiar to us for mixing.

Pour 150 ml of water into a bowl, add a teaspoon of salt, 30 ml of vegetable oil and break 1 egg. Mix everything with a silicone spatula and secure the dough hook.

We turned on the mixer first at the minimum, first speed and gradually poured 400 g of flour into the bowl.

After a minute, we raised the speed to the second – the dough began to turn into a dense lump. After another 3 minutes, they saw that the formed lump, although it stuck around the hook, did not come off from the bottom of the bowl.

I had to stop the mixer and pick up the part of the dough that stuck to the container from below. The mixer was turned on again for 20 seconds, and now the lump has become homogeneous. Lightly knead the dough with your hands, transfer to another container, cover with foil and leave for a while.

It was decided to turn the resulting dough into a pie with meat filling, or rather, a Moldavian twirl.

400 g of minced meat were placed in a bowl, salt, a mixture of peppers and fresh herbs were added.

We changed the hook to a mixing paddle and turned on the mixer on the second speed. What do you say when everything is fine? In a couple of minutes, the minced meat was perfectly mixed, not smeared on the walls of the bowl, and all this without our participation.

Now let’s start forming the pie. The dough was kneaded in flour and rolled out into a thin rectangular (almost) layer. Melt the butter and brush it on the rolled out dough. The minced meat was distributed and wrapped in a roll.

The edges were fixed and laid out on a baking sheet a snail from the resulting sausage. Brushed with egg, sprinkled with sesame seeds and put in an oven preheated to 200 degrees.

After 40 minutes, a juicy and tasty cake was ready.

Result: excellent.

Whipping egg whites

In testing planetary mixers, we are always interested in what the minimum amount of product will be for successful whipping. We poured three whites from large eggs into the bowl, but it immediately became clear that the whisk did not reach them. We added a fourth and turned on the mixer immediately at maximum speed. By the fifth minute of whipping, the foam formed, but it was not lush.

It turned out that the whisk does not get the proteins at the bottom in full, so only the top is whipped well.

In order to remedy the situation, we lifted the squirrels from the bottom with a silicone spatula and mixed them a little by hand. Then we turned on the mixer again at maximum speed, and after another seven minutes we got a lush, homogeneous mass. Total time whipping 4 proteins took 12 minutes.

Result: good.

Charlotte with blackcurrant and walnuts

We deviated from the classic charlotte recipe and took pre-thawed currants. The berries were dried, sprinkled with starch, mixed and left to wait for their turn.

The eggs were beaten for six minutes at maximum speed, gradually adding powdered sugar and salt. According to the rules, the mass should increase in volume and become lush. Bearing in mind that the whisk does not always capture the contents of the bowl from the bottom well, in the middle of the process we stopped the mixer and kneaded the mass with a silicone spatula from the bottom up and started the mixer again at maximum speed. The mass became relatively lush, but we did not achieve the necessary increase.

At the seventh minute, changing the speed to the second, pour the sifted flour into the egg mixture and bring the dough to readiness.

Half of the dough was poured into the prepared form, berries and chopped nuts were added on top, then a layer of dough again, and the remaining berries were sprinkled on top.

Bake for 40 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 degrees.

During baking, the charlotte rose a little, but we did not get the necessary airiness and porosity. However, this did not affect the taste in any way. Good, but not great.

Result: good.

findings

The Hyundai HYM-S6551 planetary mixer left a good overall impression. This efficient device for home use is neatly made, has a pleasant design and construction familiar to devices of this type. Thanks to this, the control and operation of the mixer does not cause any difficulties. The stability of the structure during operation is also pleasing: regardless of the load, the device does not shake or vibrate.

In our practical tests, the mixer performed well, in places even very well, but not perfectly. We noticed that the whisk and dough hook mounted on the spindle do not get close enough to the bottom of the bowl, and therefore do not always carefully capture the contents from the very bottom of the container. Because of this, we sometimes had to stop the mixer and help the appliance with a silicone spatula.

We also paid attention to user care. The mixer bowl comes with a convenient transparent lid designed to protect the kitchen area from splashes while the mixer is running at high speeds. In addition, there are a couple of useful accessories in the kit: a silicone spatula and a separator for proteins and yolks. A trifle, but pleasant.

pros

  • simplicity and ease of use
  • stepless speed control
  • stable grip on the table surface during operation
  • low noise level
  • silicone spatula and separator for proteins and yolks included

Minuses

  • the whisk and dough hook do not always fully grasp the food from the bottom of the bowl
