Hungary will veto any European proposals that would lead to restrictions on energy imports from Russia.
Hungary still opposes any EU embargo on Russian oil and gas imports.
This was stated by the speaker of the Hungarian government Zoltan Kovacs, writes The Guardian.
“Hungary’s position on any oil and gas embargo has not changed: we do not support them,” he said.
The EU plans to propose a phased ban on Russian oil imports as part of a sixth round of sanctions being discussed this week.
According to a senior EU diplomat, the decisive factor is that the German government will no longer put the brakes on the embargo. The reason for Germany’s change of course is probably the latest success in finding alternative oil suppliers.
Recall that recently information appeared in the media that Austria, Hungary and Slovakia, who hesitated to support an embargo on Russian oil supplies, withdrew their veto.
