French President Emmanuel Macron called on Vladimir Putin to allow the evacuation of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, where civilian and military Ukrainians still remain, to continue.
In a telephone conversation with the Kremlin dictator, Macron noted “the extreme gravity of the consequences of the war of conquest that Russia is waging against Ukraine.”

“Emmanuel Macron expressed deep concern about Mariupol and the situation in Donbas and called on Russia to allow the continuation of the evacuation that began in recent days from the Azovstal plant in coordination with humanitarian actors,” the message says.
The President of France called on the Russian Federation to allow the evacuees to choose where to go from Mariupol, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Also Macron:
- expressed readiness to work with competent international organizations to help lift the Russian blockade of Ukrainian food exports through the Black Sea;
- called on Russia to fulfill its obligations as a permanent member of the Security Council by “putting an end to this crushing aggression”;
- announced his constant readiness to work on the conditions for achieving peace through negotiations, “to ensure full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Recall that on Sunday, May 1, it was possible to start evacuating people from Azovstal.
