In Ukraine, they continue to collect evidence of the atrocities of the Russian Federation for The Hague. The Rada adopted a law allowing the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to work in Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, May 3, voted for the basis and, in general, the law allowing the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to work in Ukraine.
This was announced at the conference on May 3 by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova.
“We are gathering everything for The Hague, but in order for him (the prosecutor – Ed.) to work here, he needs to be given a tool that is enshrined in the Ukrainian Code of Criminal Procedure. I am very grateful that the Verkhovna Rada gave these tools today,” she said.
According to Venediktova, this does not mean that the prosecutor and his team did not work here. He was twice in Ukraine, his team was here for a long time, he investigated Bucha, Borodyanka, so the process of his investigation is already ongoing.
“Since it is very important that everything connected with our procedural actions, and with the actions of the international prosecutor, be acceptable to the court – everything must be in strict accordance with the current legislation and the norms of international humanitarian law. The ISS prosecutor will undoubtedly be guided by the Rome Statute – this is the basis of his activity. That is, he moves along it,” she stressed.
The Prosecutor General also noted that no one can say with regard to time limits, because he (the prosecutor – Ed.) is a completely independent person in his investigation strategy, in his vision of how he will do it and when he will reach the result.
“I hope that the prosecutor who has now come to the investigation – he is professional and motivated – his professionalism and the dynamics with which he began to cooperate with us will provide us with quick justice. Because for Ukraine it is very important not just justice, but also quick justice in particular,” concluded Venediktova.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the state would insist on an international tribunal for Russian war criminals, but there are Ukrainians who will look for the occupiers on their own. The tribunal over the Russian occupiers can last for a long time and people will not have enough patience.
