Saint Theodore Sicyon is a hermit, ascetic, Byzantine priest, bishop, monk, miracle worker and healer. It was he who founded the Sikey Monastery.

Born around 550 in the village of Sykeya (near the city of Anastasiopolis, province of Galatia, Asia Minor). When Theodore was 6 years old, his mother gave him a golden belt, because she saw her son in the future as a strong and courageous warrior. However, in a dream, the great martyr George appeared to her, ordering her not to think about military service, because her son was born to serve the Lord.

Theodore’s father, Cosmas, was a runner with the ruler Justinian the Great and died quite early. At school, the boy showed learning abilities, was quiet and wise beyond his years. The devout elder Stefan also lived in his mother’s house. It was he who greatly influenced little Theodore. Already at the age of 8, the boy, imitating the old man, refused food during Lent.

At the age of 10, Theodore became very ill. Then they brought him to the church of St. John the Baptist, laid him in front of the altar and began to wait for a miracle. Two drops of dew fell on the boy’s face from the icon of the Savior, which immediately healed him. After this event, Theodore began to come in a dream to St. George, who took him to pray in the temple. At the age of 12, the future saint saw Christ himself and his mother the Virgin Mary in a dream. Jesus then said to Theodore: ” Strive, Theodore, in order to receive the reward perfect in the Kingdom of Heaven, but I will make you respected on earth and glorify you among people .” Since then, the boy began to study even harder.

At the age of 14, he left home and lived at the Church of the Great Martyr George. His mother brought him food there, but Theodore ate only one prosmphora, and left other dishes on the stones in front of the entrance to the church. Theodore avoided all human glory, and therefore went to live as a hermit not far from the church of the Great Martyr George. He dug the cave himself and persuaded one deacon to fill up the entrance, leaving a small hole for air. At the age of 17, Theodore was ordained a priest.

After some time, he went to Jerusalem, visited the Khozevit Lavra near the Jordan. There he became a monk. After the death of the Bishop of Anastasiopol, the Christians decided to put Theodore in his place. The saint worked hard for the good of the Church, but his soul sought solitude for communion with God. Therefore, he again went to the sacred places of Jerusalem, not revealing his dignity to anything. 613 Theodore died.
