Hungary does not agree with the EU decision on the Russian oil embargo. The country does not see any plans or guarantees in the current EU proposal.
The Hungarian government said that the EU plan to completely ban Russian oil is unsatisfactory, as it threatens Hungary’s energy security. Hungary and Slovakia, which are heavily dependent on Russian energy, will be given until the end of 2023 to implement the sanctions, a year longer than other member countries.
Bloomberg reports this with reference to informed sources.
In turn, Hungarian government speaker Zoltan Kovacs said that Hungary’s concerns remain unresolved.
“We do not see any plan or guarantees in the current proposal to manage even the transition period, as well as what will guarantee Hungary’s energy security,” he said.
Recall that on Wednesday, May 4, the European Commission presents the sixth package of sanctions against Russia for military aggression against Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that Europe wants Ukraine to win the war.
