The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, who stubbornly supports the policy of the Russian dictator and the killing of Ukrainians, may enter the sixth round of sanctions proposed by the EU.
The proposed project is aimed at familiarizing the relevant EU ambassadors.
CNN reports this with reference to two sources.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, is among those to be included in the proposed sixth round of European Union sanctions, sources say. At this stage, the names can be removed or added at the discretion of the member states, said a source in the EU Commission.
We will remind, earlier that the European Union may impose sanctions against Patriarch Kirill , foreign media reported. In particular, they noted that the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry insisted on this.
It should be noted that Patriarch Kirill is an ardent admirer of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and at one time called his reign a “miracle”. According to a European External Action Service document seen by Politico, Kirill was “one of the greatest supporters of Russian military aggression against Ukraine” and a key player in boosting Vladimir Putin’s Ukraine rhetoric. The document highlights a series of military sermons and remarks by Kirill a month after the Russian invasion, as well as his blessing to Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
