Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia must return to the borders by February 24 and return the illegally annexed Crimea.
Zelensky said that Ukraine stopped the advance of Russia on its territory and assured that the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would liberate their territory.
He said this in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
“We are gaining ground and pushing back the Russian army,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian leader said Ukraine plans to push back Russian forces to their pre-invasion positions on February 24 and will seek to regain control of all Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula, which Russia illegally seized in 2014 through dialogue.
Zelenskiy described Ukraine’s struggle as a struggle “for the values of the civilized world,” describing his shock at the torture and killing of civilians.
“I’m shocked by what they did to real living people. I’ve just never seen anything like it in the world. I’m still in shock,” he added.
International and Ukrainian war crimes investigators are investigating allegations of Russian atrocities during the war, he said.
In addition, according to The Wall Street Journal, Zelensky will speak at an emergency NATO meeting on Thursday, May 5. He also intends to hold talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
