What types of houses can be called more resistant to destruction, which can withstand nearby artillery strikes and shelling, and in which houses it is better not to hide in the basements, said construction expert Edward Pukhaev.

If you live in houses built before 1920 , you need to keep in mind that these are brick houses with wooden floors. Due to the absolute probability of a fire during shelling, it is imperative to leave such a house and go down to the basement, or even better, look for a bomb shelter.

Houses built before the 50s can be either with concrete or with wooden floors . Here you need to know the technical characteristics of each specific building. Therefore, it is better to play it safe and leave such a building during shelling. Moreover, most of the houses of this period were built with bomb shelters, in which, in fact, it is better to hide.

Brick Soviet houses 50-80 years old and panel houses 70-80 years old are, according to the expert, the most unreliable construction due to the avalanche type of their collapse . Therefore, in case of an alarm, you must immediately go down to the middle floors of such houses, and also make sure that there are at least two walls between your place of residence and the place of a possible hit (the rule of two walls), one of which can take the blow, and the second – “catch” the debris from the first. The ideal place is the stairwell. The basement is a relatively safe place in the house during shelling, but not in panel houses. “Khrushchev” and “Brezhnevka” are extremely unprotected from collapses, so the basements of such houses can be a real trap for residents hiding in them.

The houses were built in 2000-2010 mostly brick . The construction of brick structures in the zero years of this century is a good option compared to panel houses, but they lose in safety to new buildings.

The expert considers new buildings built between 2010 and 2022 to be the safest houses . Experts note that monolithic-frame buildings of new buildings cope better with the protective function. It is this type of buildings that is most common in modern housing construction. So if you live in a post-zero apartment building, your chances of the building surviving increase. However, this does not mean that air raid warnings should be ignored. And no matter what secure home you live in, that doesn’t relieve you of the obligation to consider safety considerations and go down to shelter with your family and neighbors.
