The commander of the Russian Central Military District, Colonel General Alexander Lapin, awarded his son, a tanker, who led the attack on Sumy and Chernigov. On the day the Russian propaganda TV channel Zvezda aired the story about the awarding of Lapin, the Russian army was already retreating from the Chernigov and Kiev directions.

Journalists found out that this 36-year-old lieutenant colonel is the son of General Alexander Lapin. Denis Lapin is in command of the 1st Guards Tank Regiment , which is part of the famous Tamanskaya motorized rifle division since the Second World War. This is military unit #58198. Ukrainian intelligence named the 1st Tank Regiment among those units that were involved in the invasion.
Relatives of the Russian military who served in this unit, having familiarized themselves with the screenshots of the plot of the Zvezda TV channel, confirmed to journalists that General Lapin is awarding Lieutenant Colonel Lapin.
Meanwhile, in March, Captain Rasim Tagiev was captured by Ukrainians , along with a number of other Russian soldiers who were traveling in 2021 during a parade on Red Square. In a video posted by Ukrainian security officials on March 13, Tagiyev says that he serves as a company commander in unit 58198. He calls Lieutenant Colonel Denis Lapin his commander. Already in captivity, Tagiyev said that on February 24, at the head of a column of about 30 tanks, he crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border.
