On May 5, Great Britain imposed sanctions against the international mining and metallurgical corporation Evraz, owned by the Russians. In particular, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich is a co-owner of Evraz.
In general, after the full-scale war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, Britain imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 people and more than 100 companies from the Russian Federation.
This is stated in a statement on the website of the British government.
They explained that the metallurgical and mining company operates in industries of strategic importance to the Russian government.
Evraz plc produces 28% of all railway wheels and 97% of railway tracks in Russia. The British government stressed that this is of great importance, since the Russian Federation uses the railway to move key military supplies and troops to the front line in Ukraine.
“Along with existing measures, this action will further deter companies operating in Russia’s strategic sectors. Today’s asset freeze means no UK citizen or company can do business with them… These sanctions will further undermine Putin’s financial reserves and the economy and support Ukraine’s continued resistance, ” the British government said in a statement.
Recall that the President of the European Council Charles Michel said that the proposal for a sixth package of sanctions against the oil embargo for Russia will be supported by all EU member states.
