German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden had a conversation on Thursday, May 5. As a result of the negotiations, the leaders of the two countries agreed not to recognize any territorial achievements of Russia in Ukraine.
Also, Scholz and Biden condemned “the recent comments of the Russian leadership, trying to discredit the democratically legitimized Ukrainian leadership.” They also announced further military assistance to Ukraine.
This is stated in a statement by a representative of the German government, according to Reuters news agency.
“They agreed that Ukraine needs further substantial and ongoing support to practice its legitimate right to self-defence,” the spokesman for the German chancellor added.
As reported, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock plans to visit Ukraine. The plans of the visit of the German diplomat are to meet with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.
In addition, German President Steinmeier can visit Kiev, he was invited by Zelensky during a telephone conversation on Thursday, May 5. However, it is not yet known whether the German president is ready to go to Kyiv and when this may happen.
