The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy (MCIP) documents the war crimes of the Russian invaders against the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
As of May 5, 2022, 300 such episodes were recorded in different regions of Ukraine. Most of them are in Kharkiv (88), Donetsk (62) and Kyiv regions (49).
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on its Facebook page.
“We continue to record every case of Russian military atrocities against the cultural heritage of Ukraine. Not a single shameful episode should be left without the attention of international criminal proceedings. Russians should know that punishment is inevitable.
I am grateful to every Ukrainian for their help in documenting cases of damage or destruction of our cultural monuments,” Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko said.
We remind you that the destruction of cultural heritage sites is a war crime under the 1954 Hague Convention.
ICIP also asks Ukrainians, mindful of personal safety, to help document Russia’s crimes on the national platform at this link . All collected materials will be used as evidence for criminal proceedings against Russian criminals.
Recall that the National Security and Defense Council urged Ukrainians not to ignore the alarms on May 9 because of the high probability of mass shelling of the Russian Federation.
