President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia believes it will not be held accountable for war crimes committed in Ukraine because of the threat of nuclear weapons.
Zelenskiy also said Russia was calculating how long it would take for nuclear missiles to hit European capitals.
The head of state said this during a speech at a virtual event held by the Chatham House policy institute to discuss the war.
“Russia believes that their responsibility can be delayed for decades, and they don’t think they will be responsible for war crimes because they have the power of a nuclear state and nuclear blackmail after many decades,” Zelensky said.
“They do it because of a sense of impunity. Russia is thus blackmailing Europe with threats,” he added.
Recall that on May 2, Zelensky commented on the nuclear threat from Russia and said that the authorities were considering the threat of any enemy attack.
