On Thursday, May 5, two men were detained in Lviv, suspected of trafficking in humanitarian aid, which was handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by caring people.
During the searches, military ammunition worth UAH 550,000 was confiscated from the suspects.
This was reported in the police of the Lviv region.
According to the investigation, a 43-year-old resident of Lviv and a 34-year-old resident of Kiev were selling humanitarian aid , which was given to them by caring citizens and foreigners.
“In the course of the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers documented the facts of trafficking in malefactors, one of whom is the president of an investment company, and the other is the editor-in-chief of an information publication, humanitarian aid. This aid was donated by caring citizens of Ukraine and foreigners to them free of charge for the fighters, with weapons in their hands, protecting us from Russian occupiers, as well as for persons injured as a result of hostilities,” the message says.
Law enforcers seized protective helmets and bulletproof vests from the suspects with a total value of 550,000 hryvnias . During searches of the men’s homes, the police also found a laptop, mobile phones, a significant amount of funds in different currencies, as well as other material evidence.
On this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 3 of Article 201-2 (illegal use for profit of humanitarian aid, charitable donations or gratuitous aid) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspects face up to 7 years in prison. The confiscated military equipment will go to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
