The Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance does not see the risk of an escalation of the war and involvement of NATO in the conflict.
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoane said that the war in Ukraine will enter a decisive phase in the coming weeks.
He announced this in an interview with Al Jazeera.
“We are entering the decisive phase of the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine. We expect the coming weeks to be decisive, even if the war lasts longer,” said one of the leaders of the Alliance.
At the same time, Joane stressed that the Alliance does not expect the war to escalate and NATO to be involved in the conflict.
“We do not see from a military point of view that Russia wants or can escalate the conflict, especially with NATO. Perhaps the embarrassment was the fact that NATO has mobilized significant additional forces on the eastern flank, that we have activated a defense plan for the eastern countries for the first time in history” Joan emphasized.
According to him, the war in Ukraine will continue “with greater intensity and greater casualties,” but there is no risk of escalation between Russia and NATO.
“We are trying to avoid such a scenario,” he said.
Recall that in Brussels on May 19 a meeting of the Chiefs of Staff of NATO countries will be held , among those present will be the heads of the General Staffs of Ukraine, Sweden and Finland.
