Now Ukrainian refugees in some Polish cities can no longer count on free transport. Read in the material TSN.ua why and in which cities the service is still operating.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine (February 24, 2022), most Polish carriers have decided to support Ukrainian refugees fleeing the fighting. Then the free use of vehicles was introduced throughout Poland. It was only necessary to show the driver the passport of a citizen of Ukraine.
However, according to the message of the Capital Transport Line of the Gdansk Bay dated May 1, 2022, free travel for Ukrainians was canceled . Now everyone needs to buy tickets to use public transport. In particular, the rule applies to the following cities:
- Gdynia;
- Gdansk;
- Veigerovo;
- Sopot.
The decision is explained very simply – local budgets no longer have enough funds to finance free services for Ukrainian refugees.
Where Ukrainians in Poland can still ride for free
Ukrainian refugees can use the Polregio and PKP Intercity trains as well as the Tri-City commuter rail for free . In Lublin, Ukrainians can travel for free in any transport, because funding for these trips comes from local governments from abroad. Until the end of May, you can ride for free on public transport in Warsaw .
