The situation is particularly noticeable in the markets of Africa and the Middle East.
The actions of the Russian Federation during the armed aggression against Ukraine are aimed at and deliberately obstructing agricultural activities and blocking grain exports, which increases the risks of a food crisis and global famine.
US Permanent Representative Linda Thomas- Greenfield stated this at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
“Russia is actively obstructing Ukrainian agricultural production, as well as blocking ports that provided food to the needy,” the American representative said.
Putin’s war exacerbates the risks of a global food crisis, which is particularly affecting markets in Africa and the Middle East.
“While we are trying to stop this blockade and hold Russia accountable for its actions, we must all step up and prevent famine, as well as provide more food and funding,” the United States Ambassador to the UN added.
She concluded that this issue will still be discussed in the Security Council separately during an open debate that the United States will hold later this month.
Recall that the UN Security Council is now discussing the problems of protecting the civilian population and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and in the context of Russian aggression in the framework of the recently adopted agenda of the Republic of Belarus for 2022 “Support for Peace and Security of Ukraine”.
