President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that there are no signs of a quick end to the war, in particular, such a desire is not visible on the Russian side.
The head of state stressed that Ukraine is striving to achieve victory in the war as soon as possible, restore its territorial integrity and start restoring destroyed property, including with funds confiscated from Russia.
Zelensky said this during a speech at a virtual event held by the Chatham House policy institute to discuss the war.
“Today is already the 72nd day of a full-scale war, and we do not yet see its end. We do not see and do not feel the desire of the Russian side . Just as we do not see exhaustive answers to all the threats created by Russia,” the Ukrainian president said.
“There hasn’t been a day since February 24 that my whole team and I haven’t negotiated to obtain the necessary weapons, to agree on the necessary sanctions against Russia, to organize the necessary cooperation in order to record and investigate war crimes. There hasn’t been a day since the beginning of the brutal blockade Mariupol by the Russian army (this is one example), so that we do not try to find a diplomatic solution to save people and organize humanitarian corridors,” Zelensky added.
He informed that the state is in contact with everyone who can provide financial support to Ukraine. In particular, they have already begun to prepare a large-scale Recovery Plan for Ukraine, “because we have no doubt that we will still be able to defend our independence.”
At the same time, Zelensky said that for months “we have been talking about the same things.” For example, about the oil embargo against Russia, about blocking the entire banking sector of the terrorist state.
“ For months we have been fighting for a sufficient supply of weapons . And I am grateful to those states that have been helping us from the first days constantly, daily. Because they correctly assessed the threat. But, unfortunately, not all states have assessed it this way. ” Most of the challenges and threats provoked by Russia have not received exhaustive answers . That’s the main thing. Therefore, we need new tools, we need to look for them constantly. New determination. Something that can stop not only Russia, but also any potential aggressor,” he stressed Ukrainian leader.
Recall that in the same speech, Zelensky said that Ukraine could completely stop negotiations with Russia , and the reason for this would be the killing of captured civilians and the military.
