The story of Lisa Chernyshenko, a resident of Popasna, who independently undertook to save the wounded people and came under fire, spread around the social networks, according to TSN .

She talks casually about what she did, like nothing special. Now 15-year-old Lisa is safe, under the supervision of doctors, and a few days ago she did not know if she would survive, but she risked her life for the sake of strangers.

“I was driving a car and it happened that the Russians fired on us,” the girl said in the ambulance.

She is an orphan, she has been living with her godmother since she was seven, in Popasna. On that day, a woman and a girl went out to walk around the neighborhood, there was a car on the road, in it were four wounded, three men and a woman. They asked to be taken to the hospital in Bakhmut. “I just needed help quickly so that they didn’t lose a lot of blood,” the girl explains.

None of the adults I knew dared to do this, the way to the hospital lies under Russian shelling. Although she had no rights, the girl knew how to drive a car, and she volunteered to carry the wounded. More than 30 kilometers were covered by the mined road. “There were mines in a checkerboard pattern, there was no way to get through, but I somehow drove through, and then there was a woman’s corpse, a pillar, I drove through and they fired at us,” the girl says.

With her legs shot through, she stepped on the gas. “It hit my legs, that’s it, I started shaking, the car stalled, I start it, and then they start shelling us,” she adds.

A few hundred meters away, it turned out that the Russians had hit the battery. Lisa and the people she was carrying were lucky – they were met by Ukrainian soldiers. “They shouted why you left, you are a fool, I say, but what should I do,” the child justifies.

She instantly became a symbol of the invincibility of Ukrainians. When the girl was transported on a stretcher from the evacuation train to the Lviv hospital, she did not yet know that her story had spread around social networks and amazed millions of people around the world. “It hurt, a lot of blood flowed. It was very hard to press the pedals, the clutch pedal was very hard to press, also with the left foot, ”says Lisa.

The girl was wounded in both legs. How, with unbearable pain, she could continue to drive a car, the doctors do not understand. They say that the legs were saved, only one finger had to be amputated. Although the treatment will be long, the girl will walk. “Gunshot injuries to the lower extremities, metal remnants from bullets and the metal of another that got into the wounds were removed,” says the head of the orthopedic and traumatology department of the hospital of St. Nicholas of the First Medical Association of Lvov Galina Gachkevich.

She saved the woman and the three men she was carrying. Now they are under medical supervision. Lisa says: it’s a miracle that the car didn’t blow up then. “The seat was high, if it had been lowered lower, I wouldn’t have seen it and we could have exploded, I’m driving and I see huge round mines. I somehow drove through them, I was lucky that I didn’t catch a single one, there were a lot, 300-400 meters, all the mines were, ”recalls the girl.

Lisa will not return from Lvov to Popasnaya yet. In the ward, he draws a lot and remembers his godmother. She says that when she took the wounded, she promised her to return, and now she dreams of taking the baptized woman here to safety, but there is no connection with this at present.
