English football club “Chelsea” agreed on the terms of a deal with a consortium of investors led by American Todd Boely, co-owner of the baseball club “Los Angeles Dodgers”.

Boeli is expected to be present for Chelsea’s home game against Wolves on Saturday.

The deal is expected to be £4.25bn (about $5.2bn), but the team’s former owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, will not make any money, according to the club’s statement.

More than half of this amount – 2.5 billion pounds – is a payment for the shares of the club, which Abramovich promises to donate to charity.

They will be transferred to the billionaire’s frozen account, and from there to a fund helping victims of the war in Ukraine. Abramovich’s representatives say they have contacted the UN and leading charities to set up such a fund.

The remaining £1.75bn is an investment in the club promised by the new owners, including its stadium, women’s team and football academy.

In addition to Boeli, the consortium includes the investment firm Clearlake Capital, another American, Mark Walter, and Swiss investor Hansjorg Wyss.

In early March, Abramovich announced the sale of the club. Shortly thereafter, the businessman was included in the British sanctions imposed in connection with the Russian attack on Ukraine.

The deal to sell Chelsea is expected to be completed before the end of May, but first it must be approved by the English football authorities and the British government.

Boeli is worth $4.5bn (or £3.6bn), according to Forbes magazine.

In addition to the LA Dodgers, he owns stakes in the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Sparks women’s basketball club.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 for £140m and has invested more than £1.5bn.

During this time, the club became the champion of England four times and won the Champions League and the Europa League twice each.

Chelsea are currently in third place in the Premier League table, well behind Liverpool and Manchester City.
