The Central Intelligence Agency so far sees no signs of Russia preparing to use a nuclear attack on the territory of Ukraine.
At the same time, the department noted that one should not underestimate the possible risk of Putin using nuclear weapons during the second phase of the war due to the numerous failures of the Russian army on the battlefield.
This was during a speech in Washington, said the head of the organization, William Byrne, reports CNN.
He assured that it is quite possible to track the preparation of a nuclear strike, in particular, through satellite images.
“Given the type of saber-rattling … we’ve heard from the Russian leadership, we can’t take these possibilities lightly,” Burns said. “ At a time when the stakes for Putin’s Russia are very high, and these risks in this second phase of the conflict are serious, they should not be underestimated.”
