I have been interested in the topic of inexpensive projectors from China for more than two years. During this time I tried a dozen different models of these devices. I chose the first model for availability and rather for the sake of interest, and then I got involved and began to study the issue more widely, acquiring and testing more and more new models. Such purchases can be divided into two categories: I took the device for myself to watch movies myself, I bought a projector for testing and for review. I took the L7 projector just for myself, so the experience of using it is quite long. I have watched hundreds of movies on this projector, many hours of YouTube and played dozens of video games. It so happened that testing inexpensive projectors became my hobby. To be honest, over time, they began to send me projectors for tests either at a 50% discount, or even for a symbolic amount. In fact, this is a beta test of the product, because quality control at factories for inexpensive projectors is often lame. And only after detailed tests can we say whether this model is suitable for use or it is worth modifying the software and hardware of the projector.

For example, my story with the TouYinger H5 projector. When I received the device, I immediately saw that the projector breaks the picture at 60 hertz in progressive mode (tearing) and skips frames. Empirically, I found out that if you set a signal from an external source in 1080i interlacing, then tearing and frame loss disappear. I filmed it all on video, took a photo, wrote to the manager so that he would transfer all the information to the plant. After that, the engineers wrote a new firmware, correcting the vertical sync error in the progressive mode. The manager sent me the firmware, I tested it and gave the go-ahead, saying that now everything is working fine and there are no problems. The firmware was sent to all the buyers of this projector in private messages, he also posted it on a technical resource for Android devices, which everyone knows very well. I want to note that this is my approach to testing projectors. Some bloggers quietly took reviews of the H5 long before I got the projector, and did not even hint at tearing and frame drops. And my task, as an enthusiast, is that you can get comprehensive information about the projector, with all its features, pluses and minuses of a particular model. Because I myself have been looking at 1 lcd technology projectors for a long time, and not just made a review, said something there and forgot.

TouYinger L7 Projector Features

So, after the introduction and acquaintance with my approach to the tests, let’s return to the main topic – the opinion of the TouYinger L7 projector. This is a projector with a FullHD matrix, very sharp in the center of the frame and somewhat soapy at the edges. In view of this feature, it is worth adjusting the focus from the edge to the center, setting the average sharpness. Then there will be no problems with the picture. I bought L7 after half a year I watched my first 1 lcd – T4 mini with a 720p matrix. I wrote a review on my first projector, asked the manager for a discount for the review, and gladly received this discount. Turning on the L7, I immediately saw that the new projector had a noticeably higher picture clarity, without even comparing 720p and 1080p devices head-on. Therefore, if you now have a 720p projector, then by purchasing a FullHD device you will immediately see the difference. The L7 also has an overestimated contour sharpness. This moment is familiar to all photography lovers, they know what it is. Simply put, white halos form around contrasting objects. Many led dlp projectors sin this way, for example, the Xgimi Z6 by default has a wild image oversharp and the edge sharpness parameter must be reduced to watch movies. One more thing I want to say about this parameter of contour sharpness, or as usual in projectors it is called sharpness. For cinema, I recommend lowering the edge sharpness parameter, because film grain turns into artifacts at high sharpness values. In video games, YouTube and cartoons, this feature is not present and additional sharpness adds detail to the picture.

By the way, the TouYinger L7 focus adjustment itself requires accuracy, because there are touch buttons nearby and you can accidentally turn off the projector. After I accidentally turned off the projector a couple of times, I began to adjust the focus with a certain grip and the problem was solved. But out of habit, you will probably turn off the projector a couple of times, because the touch control of the projector is sensitive. But the buttons themselves nicely glow in the dark with a soft light, do not interfere with viewing and look stylish, like the projector itself.

Projector Appearance

The TouYinger L7 is a pretty cute little one. The combination of classic black and white colors makes it easy to fit the projector into any interior, and its compact size is only a plus. White gloss is not easily soiled, fingers do not leave marks on the surface. All main inputs and outputs are on the back of the projector, as is the IR sensor. And here is another feature of this model – you need to direct the remote control behind the projector, towards the IR sensor. There is no sensor on the front panel. My projector was about half a meter from the wall, so there were no problems with remote control. But it is worth remembering where you need to direct the remote so that the projector obeys commands. The remote itself is easy to use and pleasantly lies in the hand, rubberized buttons are softly pressed and work well. The buttons are located on both sides of the remote and are easy to touch in the dark, and the confirmation button is right in the center of the remote, I think this is a good solution. The kit comes with an instruction in English, a power cord, an AV cable for DVD and retro set-top boxes, and a rubber protective lens cap. The cover can only be put on when the focus wheel is turned to the end position and the lens with the lens is completely inside the body. In principle, you can remove it and no longer get it.

Another positive point of the TouYinger L7 projector is lower noise than its counterparts. It makes a little quieter noise than most 1 lcd projectors and the timbre of the noise itself is less noticeable. I also want to note that, like all projectors based on this technology, L7 is also slowly gaining dust on the mirror, protective polarizing glass and matrix. It will have to be disassembled and cleaned from dust. For disassembly, a long and thin Phillips screwdriver is useful, for some reason in this model small bolts were used and they were sunk deep into the case. From my own experience, I can say that the projector collects dust about the same as the T4 mini, it has to be cleaned every 5-6 months with regular use. The procedure itself takes no more than 20 minutes.

The projector has only one speaker. Of course, you can watch a cartoon or play, but for complete immersion, you need an external speaker system. Then the effect of the big picture becomes really impressive and the immersion in what is happening on the screen is deeper. The sound is 60% of the atmosphere of the viewing and this significantly affects the wow effect when viewing a projector or TV. Therefore, I recommend at least a good active stereo pair from the same EDIFIER or a 2.1 system with a subwoofer.

There is no mechanical keystone correction in the projector, but there is a digital vertical and horizontal correction. Pretty handy feature. Selected from the Options menu. The projector remembers the settings, after turning off the keystone settings are saved.

By the way, in case you didn’t already know. The TouYinger L7 projector is the same model as the Toprecis T8. It is this projector model that appears in the reviews of Western bloggers, and this device is sold on Amazon under the name T8.

Projector picture

Now regarding the picture of the device. As already mentioned, it is quite clear. The focus needs to be adjusted evenly from the edges to the center and for watching movies, reduce the sharpness a little. The resolution of the FullHD matrix and no pixels are visible unless you poke your nose into the 100-inch screen. The color rendition is pleasant, the skin tone looks natural, the picture is warm and pleasing to the eye. Additionally, you can customize the image to your liking. As with most 1 LCDs, the shadow detail is a little overwhelmed, making blacks look very saturated. All scenes with panoramas of night cities in films look very beautiful, as well as space shots. The brightness of the projector is not as high as that of lamp devices, it does not illuminate itself and the black here is truly black. It turns out such a budget version of the OLED TV for dark scenes. Right now we’re watching demos to showcase black depth on OLED and QLED TVs, and the TouYinger L7 projector does a great job. The picture looks rich and contrasting, and blacks do not glow, as on conventional LED TVs. Rich black is a plus for all 1 lcd projectors.

The built-in player of the projector does not support the AC3 codec, so connect any signal source via HDMI and enjoy the viewing experience. I watched content from the Xbox One S console and the Samsung Blu-ray player, but any good tv box on Android will do. There is a TouYinger L7w projector model with built-in Android, but I recommend taking it only if you don’t want to connect anything at all. But again, Xiaomi Mi S tivibox will work noticeably better and faster than the built-in android hardware in 1 lcd projector. Therefore, look and choose based on the situation and needs. Personally, I recommend taking the basic version and expanding the functionality using an external HDMI source. There is also a TouYinger L7A version, this projector can receive a picture from a phone over the air or a cord. But again, this function does not always work correctly and in full force, there may be artifacts or dropped frames from the broadcast. Therefore, there is nothing better than a good tivibox, game console or PC.

Another useful feature of the L7 projector is that it displays the operating temperature. You can always see if the operating conditions of the projector change. The menu of the projector is typical for other similar devices on 1 lcd. In the Picture, Sound, Time and Options tabs, you can customize the projector to your taste and desire. When connected via HDMI, you can reduce the picture by 25% or turn on the auto signal selection function so that the projector switches to the picture source itself.

Viewing content on the projector

I watched the TouYinger L7 projector with pleasure, like my family, I can say that for its price it is a good device. Youtube videos at 60 fps play well. Sometimes a frame or two may skip, but most viewers will not notice this and this does not affect the comfort of perception. The picture is smooth, smooth, without tearing and artifacts. Skin tones look natural. Reviewed on L7 many different films, cartoons, watched TV shows. The first season of The Witcher was viewed on this projector. Below are a few frames from films and games, you can clearly see it in the video version of the review on the L7. As they say, it is better to see once than to read five times. There are examples on the video, as shown by a smooth video from YouTube at 60 fps (PAL video camera shoots at 50 frames per second and if there were drops or tearing, it would be visible on this video), as well as examples of films, cartoons and video games . I filmed the material a long time ago, but I edited the review only now, in April 2022. And the material itself is disclosed in more detail and clearly, including an example of the simplest screen on which I watched films in a rented apartment for a year.

The photographs below show that the clarity and detail in the center of the frame are quite high and there is blurring only at the edges. But with a 100-inch picture, our attention is focused on the central part of the frame, and peripheral vision perceives mainly movement, which is how the cinematic effect is achieved.

Summing up, I can recommend the TouYinger L7 projector for purchase, of course, taking into account all its features. Many cannot afford to buy expensive devices. And this model can be their ticket to the world of home entertainment on the big screen. And it’s really great! After all, such projectors give us a sea of positive emotions, we can watch and enjoy together a large and beautiful picture in films, cartoons and games. The child can be shown educational programs from the cycle about animals and nature. In the past, projectors were quite expensive devices. Now there are offers for any demand and opportunity – this is actually very cool!
