Russia is deploying troops from Syria to Ukraine: will this change the situation in Donbass

Russia is deploying its units stationed in Syria to Ukraine to conduct combat operations.

The number of Russian military in Syria is about 6 thousand people.

Military expert Oleg Zhdanov announced this on the air of UNIAN.

“Since 2020, there have been conscripts there. There are very few contract soldiers there. The State Duma allowed conscripts to be there. That’s why Russia stopped active hostilities in Syria, because the main contingent there are conscripts,” Zhdanov said.

He added that this is a geopolitical defeat for Russia, since the withdrawal of the Russian Federation will change the balance of power in Syria, but the transfer of Russian forces to Ukraine will not change anything significantly.

“There is a naval unit there, it won’t affect the course of events in Ukraine at all. That large part, there are about 4,000, it is generally staffed with conscripts, there are very few contract soldiers. But the situation in Syria will change dramatically – the players there are Turkey, Israel, Iran “, – said Oleg Zhdanov.

Recall that in The presidential offices reacted to the decree of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to transfer military forces from Syria to Ukraine.

Adviser to the OP Mikhail Podolyak believes that “Moscow has thrown some firewood into the vents of the war in Ukraine that do not decide anything.” And he added with humor that Putin’s plan to seize Ukraine in three days “was magnificent, like a Swiss watch.”
