Skvoroda Museum will be rebuilt: why do Russians destroy historical monuments

The museum of Hryhoriy Skovoroda destroyed by the occupiers in the Kharkiv region is promised to be built.

Ukrainian and foreign patrons are already ready to provide funds for the restoration of the estate, where the world-famous philosopher lived the last days of his life. The building of the museum was completely destroyed by the Russians, having hit it with a rocket.

Why are the Russians destroying the monuments of history, according to TSN.

Grigory Skovoroda traveled the world for a good half of his life and, it seems, found a heavenly place where he lived the last years of his life and died in the house, which became his museum. But in May 2022, the Russians launched their own cruise missile.

There is no bed where the philosopher slept, no books. The monument to Skovoroda miraculously survived: the fire did not touch it. The most valuable exhibits were also preserved: Grigory Savich’s chest, his violins, and watches. As if someone was whispering to director Natalya Mitsai – everything needs to be hidden.

“We have kept the most valuable things, they are in the cache. Of course, we won’t say where. I had anxiety all the time, all the time,” says the director of the museum.

The Skovoroda Museum was bombed by the Russians at night, when Natalya’s son was on duty in the building. But he almost did not suffer: the man left the museum on the street a few seconds before the explosion. Now Natalya Ivanovna believes that Skovoroda saved her son. Grigory Savich is known as a philosopher, but his contemporaries spoke of him as a mystic. For example, he foresaw the plague in Kyiv, and he also knew exactly when he would die, that day he said goodbye to everyone, sat under his favorite oak tree, even dug his own grave and went to bed and never woke up again.

“They’re just crazy. Why did they get into the museum? Is it a strategic facility, a military facility? It’s just a cultural institution. They probably wanted to destroy our memory, our culture, to destroy this beauty, this reminder,” Natalya Mitsai reflects.

Now the memo is in a deplorable state – the tin from the roof is hanging on the trees, the walls are barely holding on, not a single room of the museum has survived.

The walls are still smoldering, but museum workers are already saying that they are going to restore this building.

Recall that on May 6 at 23:00 Russian invaders fired at the museum of Grigory Skovoroda. The shell hit the roof of the building. On the territory there was a 35-year-old man who looked after the museum, unfortunately, he was injured. The place is practically destroyed. The most valuable exhibits were saved, they were moved to a safe place in advance.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the shelling of the Skovoroda estate, noted that an army is fighting against Ukraine, which launches rocket attacks on museums . The Russians want to bring this to other European countries as well.

Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko noted that Skovorodinovka is located far from other villages and infrastructure facilities. Therefore, the occupiers deliberately hit the museum of Grigory Skovoroda.
