The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, went to Hungary on Monday, May 9, and held talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
As a result of the negotiations, the head of the European Commission and the Hungarian prime minister, whose country does not support sanctions against the Russian Federation, have made progress related to sanctions against the Russian Federation and energy security.
This was stated by Ursola von der Leyen on Twitter.
“Tonight’s discussion with Prime Minister Viktor Orban helped clarify issues related to sanctions and energy security. We have made progress, but more work is needed. I am convening a venture consultation with regional players to strengthen regional cooperation with oil infrastructure,” commented the European official.
Recall that Viktor Orban has repeatedly stated that he does not support the new EU sanctions against Russia in the current version. He said that for his country the new package of European Union sanctions, including an embargo on oil imports, is tantamount to an “atomic bomb”.
