Hungary will be assured that it is not against Ukraine’s entry into the European Union.
Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Istvan Iydjarto said that his country would support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union when the procedure for considering relevant issues begins.
He said this in an interview with Espresso.
According to him, Hungary supports Ukraine against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion.
“We fully support you. And we hope that this tragedy, this war will end soon. And in the end, I want to assure you that when they begin to consider the issues of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, Hungary will support it,” Istvana Iidyarto said.
Recall that Ukraine has completed the second part of the questionnaire for EU accession.
By the way, Hungary is actually one of the countries of the European Union with which Russia has the closest ties. A few days earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that his country would not support a new EU sanctions package that includes an embargo on oil imports from Russia in its current form. According to him, these restrictions are tantamount to an “atomic bomb” for his country and Budapest will not support a package of sanctions against Russian oil and gas.
On May 9, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen traveled to Hungary to meet with Orban to discuss the oil embargo against Russia.
