Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, explained why the occupying authorities of the Kherson region made a statement about their desire to include the region into the Russian Federation. He is convinced that this is an extreme scenario for Putin, as it implies an escalation.
On Wednesday, May 11, the occupying authorities of the Kherson region announced their intention to appeal to the president-dictator of the terrorist country of Russia, Vladimir Putin, with a request to annex the temporarily occupied region to the Russian Federation.
In response to this, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the issue of the entry of the Kherson region into Russia supposedly should be decided by the residents themselves. Like, the procedure should be “legitimate”.
Alexei Arestovich, in a conversation with Russian human rights activist Mark Feigin on May 11, explained why the occupying authorities of the Kherson region expressed the readiness of the region to join the Russian Federation and what the aforementioned reaction of the Kremlin means.
“This morning, there were statements by the self-proclaimed (occupation – approx.) Kherson authorities about their desire to join Russia. The immediate reaction of Peskov (Putin’s press secretary – approx.), Who says:” No, no, no, only after the people themselves choose This requires a very strong legal basis.”
The question is, why suddenly such a statement? And here’s the statement. Our Main Intelligence Directorate has published very interesting information: the FSB and the Russian GRU are terribly arguing in Kherson about the exported wealth – from grain to agricultural equipment, transport, and so on. There came almost to skirmishes, showdowns.
They “sip”. When there was “LPR” – it was given under the Russian GRU, when there was “DPR” – it was given under the FSB. And then they did not have time to divide and the local leadership began to steal. It appears in this “cut” actively participates. And when they clamped the eggs in a vise, it was necessary to blurt out something loyal and reported on the readiness of the region to join Russia.
And I was waiting for the Kremlin’s reaction. If they confirm, this is a program. If they do not confirm, then this is an extreme scenario, considered as a last resort, but in general a ban on escalation has been put up. If annexation is proclaimed now, then it will mean a sharp escalation, a sharp aggravation of sanctions, a sharp supply of weapons to Ukraine, and much more. And they, of course, immediately gave back,” said Arestovich.
