We offer you to look at the most daring and strange images that various stars chose for their exits, thereby violating the dress code of the event and a few other established rules.
The Cannes Film Festival was first held in 1946, and since then it has become one of the most prestigious celebrations of modern cinema. It is also a place where celebrities can once again make themselves known, and young actors will plunge into the rays of fame and attention, showing off their best outfits.
But since the festival is one of the oldest and most prestigious, there are many rules that guests of the event must follow. One of the strictest of these is the dress code, according to which on the red carpet men must wear tuxedos with bow ties, and women must wear heels. However, over the years, celebrities have regularly broken these rules and walked the red carpet not only in shocking images, but also barefoot, and some even took selfies.
Refusal of shoes
Although the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival do not confirm that their dress code states that women must wear heels, there were still precedents when ladies in “inappropriate” shoes were not allowed to the event. So, in 2015, several 50-year-old women who came to the festival not in stilettos were not allowed on the red carpet. In protest against this, several famous actresses decided to arrange a performance and took off their shoes right on the red carpet of Cannes.
Julia Roberts did it first. The actress appeared in a black evening dress and platform heels. But as she approached the steps, she took off her shoes and walked barefoot along them. The star did not comment on her act, but still many attributed it to a protest against discrimination against women.
The same was repeated by actress Kristen Stewart . She first posed for a photo in a mini dress and black louboutins, but soon she also took off her shoes and walked defiantly, holding them in her hands.
Susan Sarandon did the same. She came to the premiere of the film “Civil Life” in a tuxedo and ballet flats.
But the statements of famous actresses did not help. In 2019, they tried not to miss the editor-in-chief of Variety Claudia Eller on the red carpet because of “inappropriate” shoes.
Sexy outfits
But, speaking of celebrity antics at Cannes, one cannot help but recall a few overly revealing outfits in which some of them appeared on the red carpet.
In 1988, at the 41st Cannes Film Festival, porn actress Ilona Staller, better known under the pseudonym Cicciolina, decided to shock. She wore a dress that covered nothing. Ilona supplemented the outfit with a soft toy, which covered her chest a little, stockings and a wreath on her head.
If Madonna appears at an event, then shocking is indispensable. So, in 1991, the superstar took to the red carpet in a long pink bathrobe. She took it off on the steps, and it turned out that underneath the celebrity was a tapered bustier and shorts. Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier.
But on May 10, 1997, the Spanish movie star Victoria Abril came to the festival in a completely transparent outfit, which she complemented with a coat and a bag.
The next day of the festival, she came in the likeness of a man’s tuxedo, but without pants. The actress was wearing shoes, a long jacket and a hat, but her outfit had a high slit on the back that showed off her buttocks. Victoria wore short white shorts with imitation thongs and completed the look with a bag.
Sneakers on the red carpet
The dress code for the event states that men should also dress according to the instructions, however, some still violated this rule and preferred modernity and comfort when they wore stylish sneakers rather than black shoes.
Rejection of the tuxedo
The first person to break the rule and appear on the red carpet without a tuxedo was artist Pablo Picasso . In 1953, he wore a sheepskin coat over a corduroy suit, but then he was still allowed to watch the movie “The Wage of Fear”.
In 1986, the French comedian and actor Coluche decided to shock the public. He showed up with a bow on his head, in a skirt and tights, to watch Roman Polanski’s film “Pirates”.
Singer and DJ Kiddy Smile also repeatedly violated the male dress code.
Selfie ban
On the red carpet of Cannes, celebrities can not only wear “inappropriate” clothes, but also take selfies, because, according to festival director Thierry Fremaux, this is a manifestation of bad taste. But some celebrities still break this rule and before they are stopped by security, I manage to check in at the event.
So, in 2021, actress Jodie Foster and her wife, photographer Alexandra Hedison , violated this rule.
But in 2019, singer Pixie Lott and fashion designer Oliver Cheshire tried to take a photo from the red carpet. Seeing that the couple was taking a selfie, they tried to stop the security guards and take the phone.
