The humanitarian situation in the besieged Mariupol, Donetsk region, is difficult, so there is a possibility of an increase in mortality among the population in the city.
Now there are 150-170 thousand people. However, by the end of 2022, more than ten thousand Mariupol residents may die from diseases and unbearable conditions.
This is reported in the Mariupol City Council.
“The occupiers have turned Mariupol into a medieval ghetto. Therefore, the mortality rate will be appropriate. Without medicines and medical care, restoration of water supply and serviceable sewerage, epidemics will break out in the city,” stressed Mariupol Mayor Vadim Boychenko.
According to him, now most of the city’s population is elderly and sick people. However, without proper living conditions, mortality among vulnerable categories will increase significantly.
It is noted that part of Mariupol residents from nearby villages returned to the city. People are not allowed to enter the territory of Ukraine because of the strict filtration system. “But the Russians continue the genocide that they started on February 24. Our people are in mortal danger. Therefore, a complete evacuation of the city is needed,” the mayor added.
As reported, Mariupol remains the hottest spot in the Donetsk region. The city is destroyed and blocked by Russian invaders. They mock the locals, step up filtering measures and implement an information blockade. TSN.ua collected everything that happened in Mariupol over the past day, May 10.
