The procedure for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union provides for certain stages, so it is difficult to name a specific final date.
Ukraine has already submitted two parts of the questionnaire for obtaining the status of a candidate for EU membership . The European Commission is currently considering Ukrainian responses.
This was stated by Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva on the air of the All-Ukrainian telethon.
“There is a procedure for any country to join the European Union… The government has done its job with dignity. The President of Ukraine has handed over the second significant part… Now the ball is on the side of the European Commission – they need time,” Zhovkva said.
According to him, the Ukrainian side puts forward deadlines by the end of May and asks the European Commission to “work quickly,” as Ukraine does.
“Next is the status of the candidate during the meeting of the European Council, which we expect in June . And then we will talk, because negotiations will begin further. And now no one will be able to say what day, month or year this will happen, because we still We haven’t even started negotiations,” he said.
The deputy head of the OPU noted that now not a single state opposes Ukraine’s membership in the EU, on the contrary, they support the aspirations of our state.
“There is an absolutely positive trend here, so we will continue to strengthen it,” Zhovkva summed up.
