According to the press service of the medical institution, the doubled thumb became for Angelinka not just an aesthetic flaw. Mom noticed that her daughter had a weaker grasping reflex in her left hand. The doctors of the Center corrected the deformity.
“The sooner parents turn to a specialist, the more confident we can say that the functionality of the limb will be fully preserved and adaptation will be faster,” says Bogdan Romanyshyn, head of the Center’s surgical department.
The girl will wear a cast for another three weeks. Rehabilitation is ahead of her.
After treatment, doctors assure, you don’t have to worry about the baby’s hand.
In general, polydactyly is a fairly common problem that patients present with. In the surgical department of the Center, about seven operations are performed monthly for hand defects. Bogdan Romanyshyn advises parents not to be upset if their children have polydactyly or other deformities, but to turn to specialists who will help fix it.
