The Turkish authorities offered Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to evacuate the Ukrainian military from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol through the port in Berdyansk. It was proposed that until the end of the war these soldiers would be in Turkey.
Shoigu refused such an offer and said that the Ukrainian military must surrender.
The leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Mustafa Dzhemilev, spoke about this at a briefing of relatives of the military, Krym.Realii reports .
“Erdogan spoke with Putin twice. In addition, Ibrahim Kalin himself (press secretary of the President of Turkey – ed.) spoke with Defense Minister Shoigu. He (Kalin – ed.) said that a ship designed for a thousand people is in the port in Istanbul At any time, we will agree with you, they will come to the port of Berdyansk, there will be buses on the ships that will bring them from Mariupol to Berdyansk, because the port of Mariupol is mined, they will go to Berdyansk, accompanied by Turkish observers. And we, the Turkish side, we undertake that until the end of the war they will be guests of the Republic of Turkey. That is, until the end of the war they will not fight ,” said Dzhemilev.
However, Shoigu refused such an offer and said that the Ukrainian military must surrender. According to the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, the Russian side also did not agree to the exchange of Russian prisoners for the defenders of Mariupol.
Dzhemilev said that Turkey plans to continue negotiations on rescuing the Ukrainian military from Azovstal.
Recall, on May 12, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk said that Russia does not agree to the procedure for the extraction of seriously wounded soldiers from Azovstal.
However, Ukraine continues to offer Russia different options for the evacuation of the Ukrainian military, Vereshchuk said.
