The conclusion for both physicians is imprisonment.
The Nikolaev district court found the doctors guilty of the death of 12-year-old resident of Ternopil Roman Kulak. The boy died almost five years ago.
Galina Yanko, chairman of the Public Council under the SBU in the Lviv region, announced the relevant decision taken today, May 12.
“The conclusion for both doctors is imprisonment, but one doctor is 78 years old, she was actually given a reprieve from punishment. For another doctor, a surgeon, she was sentenced to three years in prison with a ban on holding the relevant position, but, finally, an amnesty was applied,” she explains.
For parents, adds Galina Yanko, it was critically important to prove the guilt of the doctors, because there is a five-year period when this fact could be committed, otherwise the case could be closed. At the same time, the doctors do not admit their guilt and will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal.
The case was considered first in Zhidachevsky, and then also in the Nikolaevsky district.
The boy passed away on June 27, 2017. The child complained of a sudden severe, sharp pain in the abdomen, the guy did not feel his left leg and arm. Grandmother called an ambulance, because her father was on a business trip in Germany, and her mother was at work in Ternopil.
The nurse, who took the young man to the Zhydachev Central District Hospital, diagnosed him with heat stroke. The hospital said that food poisoning, although all the symptoms indicated intestinal volvulus. Poisoning was diagnosed because a young guy was placed in an adult infectious diseases department.
According to Vladimir Kulak, the next morning, June 21, the child was transferred to the Lviv Regional Children’s Hospital OKHMATDIT. They immediately started the operation. During the incision, the doctors saw horrific necrosis. First, the guy was removed 30 cm of the small intestine, then the rest of the small intestine and part of the large intestine. On the first day, the operation lasted all day. Roman was hooked up to an artificial respiration apparatus and put into drug-induced sleep. Due to necrosis, sepsis began to progress. On June 27, the child was gone.
Recall that a 26-year-old pregnant woman was found dead in the Zhytomyr region, who disappeared with a man. The search for the missing spouses lasted several days. The body of a 31-year-old man was found yesterday.
