The Ukrainian military defending Mariupol, Valeria with the call sign “Nava” and the border guard Andrei with the call sign “Beard” got married on the territory of the Azovstal plant. As a result of the fighting, the man died three days after his marriage.
The defender of Mariupol told the story of their love.
The corresponding video was published by the Azov fighter Dmitry Kazatsky.
The couple met when the woman served in the border detachment.
“At some point, he appeared. There was a feeling that this is the person I should meet. I don’t know how to explain it … He immediately entered my life. It seemed to me that such feelings do not exist … This grew into a great love,” recalls Valeria.
At the beginning of the summer, it was supposed to be three years as a couple together.
“He was a“ man of happiness ”, but I’m not like that, I don’t know how to rejoice without him …” – the woman says.
Before the start of the war, Andrei told Valeria to leave the city, although he knew very well that she would not leave.
“And when February 24 came, I was mobilized to the Azov regiment, and it so happened that both he and I were surrounded, but we were all together with our brothers at Azovstal,” says Nava.
However, the couple rarely communicated, and for the first time at Azovstal they saw each other after Andrey was wounded. He came running at night and said he wanted to get married.
“The first thought was that it frightened me. I said let’s get married when my hair grows and I have a good hairstyle,” recalls Valeria.
And then the man came for the second time with foil wedding rings already made.
The couple then saw each other after the airstrike. Valeria miraculously survived, many of her brothers died. Andrey then said that “probably, love saved us so that we could be together.”
Married lovers under shelling and explosions.
“We really wanted to get married on May 5, the birthday of the Azov regiment. I had the ring of my late mother, and Andrei had my grandmother, who is waiting for us alive,” Valeria admits.
However, on May 7, Andrei died. The day before, he ran to his wife and told her to get out of there.
” I promised to get out, and he told me that he would survive. At least his soul got out of this hellish place. And I’m still here,” says Valeria with tears in her eyes.
The woman said that in Mariupol surrounded by invaders, death often separates couples. First, one of the family dies, and a few days later another. But “Nava” added that she promised her husband to get out to do everything they wanted to do together.
Valeria still does not believe in Andrey’s death.
Recall that on May 12, the Russian invaders continue to drop heavy bombs on Azovstal and attack with rockets, which is recorded on video.
