Representatives of Sweden and Finland said they were surprised by the words of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about their entry into NATO. However, in these countries they are confident that all issues can be resolved.
Thus, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said that only recently she had seen her Turkish counterpart several times.
SVT writes about it.
” We have good and constructive relations , and they (the Turks – ed.) have not told us anything like that. Neither NATO ambassadors, nor any of the 30 countries have presented anything like that. I hope that we can discuss everything, and if we decide apply for NATO membership, we will receive positive notifications from all countries,” Linde said.
At the same time, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that his Turkish counterpart reacted positively to the membership of both states in the Alliance.
” In this process, we need patience. These things are always connected with politics. Most problems can always be solved,” the Finnish minister assured.
Recall, Erdogan said that he does not look positively at the intention of Finland and Sweden to join NATO and called these states a haven for “terrorist organizations.”
