European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke at the Global Citizen NOW summit in New York.
Global Citizen NOW is a two-day emergency meeting dedicated to ending poverty and protecting the planet with over 200 speakers.
Since the beginning of a full-scale war in Ukraine, Ursula has actively supported our country and its European course. During her speech at the summit, the politician warned that war, climate change and the global food crisis are among the biggest challenges the world is currently facing.
Globally, more than 276 million people suffer from severe hunger , a number that could almost double as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has jeopardized food production in the world’s two largest crop exporters.
The European Union, heavily dependent on Russian oil and natural gas, has accelerated the phase-out of fossil fuels to deprive the Putin regime of its main source of income .
“Putin would never have thought that he was accelerating the green transition, the European green deal, towards a zero-emissions economy,” von der Leyen said, according to globalcitizen.org .
Ursula arrived at the summit in a short beige jacket, under which was a sea-green blouse, in black trousers and black shoes. Neat hair and makeup, a modest necklace and pearl earrings completed the politician’s image.
Recall that Ursula von der Leyen became the first high-ranking European politician who, since the massacre in Bucha, visited the crime scenes of the Russian army.
