Remember Dmitry Medvedev’s famous reaction to the YotaPhone: “In short, Apple is tensed up”? Nine years later, according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, that’s exactly what happened. Yabloko is testing the use of E-Ink displays as additional external screens for the iPhone. True, we are not talking about monoblock smartphones, as was the case with Yota Devices, but about folding smartphones. And the display will not be black and white, but color, fortunately, for ten years, E-Ink has made significant progress in creating multi-colored electronic ink.
Apple may not be the only major new customer for E-Ink. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, displays based on “e-paper” technology could become quite popular as the external screens of folding smartphones due to their exceptional energy efficiency. It is possible that over time this will become “mainstream”, and AMOLED displays will hardly be used in this role.
