President Volodymyr Zelensky said that only the war in Ukraine made people from different countries understand that Russia is an aggressor country. And you need to break economic ties with it.
The head of state also stressed that Russia would not go to a full-scale war against Ukraine if the current reaction of the world would have been the same in 2014.
He stated this on May 23, speaking at the World Economic Forum.
“The prevention of war would be guaranteed if the actions of the world were preventive, not reactionary. Ukraine has created another precedent in these three months. A precedent of unprecedented unity of the democratic world around the emotions of a real passion for Ukrainian courage. And around the understanding that freedom must be fought for.
And now hundreds of millions of people in democratic countries support and pressure governments and companies to limit relations with the aggressor state, with Russia. And they helped the people she attacked.
But this is only happening now, even though Russia went to war against Ukraine back in 2014.
We are grateful for such support, but if it happened back then, immediately this unity, and this pressure on governments, on companies for the sake of fighting for freedom, Russia would start this full-scale war. And they would bring all these losses to Ukraine and the world. I am sure that the answer to this question is no. Now we see that the world listens and believes Ukraine, but there is also a certain expectation in the world of how this situation will be resolved. What tools will work, what will we be able to create new ones to prevent such aggressions and how will we stop the brute force that has challenged everything that we really value. This is what the turning point means,” the president said.
Recall that the World Economic Forum began in Davos.
