Around the cities of Severodonetsk and Lysichansk in the Luhansk region there are fierce battles; The Kremlin commented on the resignation of diplomat Boris Bondarev, who gave an interview to the BBC; according to the Ukrainian authorities, 200 dead bodies were found under the rubble in Mariupol; in Kharkov, the subway started working again.

The main events of the 90th day of the war in Ukraine are in our review.

The representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said that the Russian offensive in the east and south of Ukraine has entered its most active phase.

Motuzyanik talks about attempts by Russian troops to encircle the cities of Severodonetsk and Lisichansk in the Luhansk region (previously British intelligence reported this in its morning report). These are the last major cities in this region remaining under Ukrainian control.

According to the head of the Luhansk regional administration, Sergei Gaidai, on Tuesday morning, the Russian military fired at the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk, killing five people. Gaidai noted that Russian forces continue to shell the cities of the region, in particular, crowded places.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reports an attempt by Russia to attack in the Donetsk region.

With the support of artillery and aviation, Russian troops are advancing towards Liman in the north of the Donetsk region, Russian units have occupied half of the city, the head of the self-proclaimed DPR, Denis Pushilin, said on Tuesday evening.

Reports of the beginning of the offensive on Liman were received the day before.

Earlier, both sides said that the small city of Svetlodarsk in the Donetsk region came under Russian control. The headquarters of the territorial defense of the self-proclaimed DPR reported in its Telegram channel that “Svetlodarsk has passed under the operational control of our forces, and the cleansing of the enemy element continues,” TASS reports.

The pre-war population of Svetlodarsk was 11 thousand people.

The Kremlin commented on the resignation of diplomat Boris Bondarev

Russian authorities have commented on the high-profile resignation of diplomat Boris Bondarev, who sent an email to colleagues at UN Geneva headquarters denouncing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Bondarev “is no longer with us, he is against us.” “He condemns the actions of the Russian leadership, and the actions of the Russian leadership are supported by almost the entire population of our country. This means that this gentleman opposed the general consolidated opinion of our country,” the Kremlin spokesman answered the clarifying question of journalists about what “against us” means.

In a letter to his foreign colleagues, Bondarev wrote that he “had never been so ashamed of his country as on February 24 of this year.” He called the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine “not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but probably the most serious crime against the people of Russia.”

Peskov said that the Kremlin was not familiar with this letter, and forwarded questions about it to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Diplomat Boris Bondarev told the BBC that he fears for his safety, but has not yet decided whether to seek political asylum abroad.

Authorities of Ukraine: 200 dead bodies found under rubble in Mariupol

In Mariupol, during the analysis of the rubble of a multi-storey building in the area of NPP-2 on Mira Avenue, about 200 bodies of the dead with a high degree of decomposition were found, the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, Petr Andryushchenko, said in his Telegram (he works with the current recognized head of the city, Vadim Boychenko, who was elected to the position in 2015).

“Due to the refusal of the locals to collect and pack the bodies of the dead, the Russian Emergencies Ministry left the place of work. The bodies of the dead remained in place, due to the partially dismantled blockages, the smell spread to almost the entire quarter,” he wrote.

According to Andryushchenko, the burial and exhumation work is carried out by the Ritual company from Donetsk, and the process of reburial of bodies from the yards of high-rise buildings has actually been suspended. “For the ‘official’ free reburial, you need to wait in line, bring the body of the deceased to the mortuary on your own,” writes Andryushchenko.

At the same time, according to him, one must say that “the body was just found, or agree to record a video where the applicant will say that the person was killed by the Ukrainian army.”

“Because of such conditions, a large number of corpses were piled in bags in a makeshift morgue on the street,” Andryushchenko wrote, accompanying the post with photographs, “The city has turned into a continuous cemetery.”

Subway launched in Kharkiv

The Kharkiv metro started working again on May 24. For the last three months it has been used as a bomb shelter and as a shelter for those whose houses have been destroyed.

Earlier, the mayor of the city, Igor Terekhov, said that the subway will operate from 7:00 to 19:00 and the first week of travel for passengers will be free.

Despite the fact that the number of explosions in the city has decreased, residents are still worried about their safety.
