Former Russian minister and co-owner of Alfa-Bank Pyotr Aven was suspected of violating sanctions.
A criminal case was allegedly opened against Russian businessman Pyotr Aven , who lives in the UK. The co-owner of Alfa-Bank appears on the list of billionaires most associated with Russian President Vladimir Putin and regularly met with him in the Kremlin.
This was reported on May 23 by the Russian TASS agency, citing a source close to the billionaire’s entourage.
Aven is allegedly suspected of violating sanctions. A businessman, due to the imposed restrictions, cannot spend more than 2.5 thousand euros per month. However, the UK authorities believe that the billionaire spends much more and leads a too luxurious lifestyle.
The agency clarifies that there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
Pyotr Aven, 67, recently resigned as chairman of the board of directors of Alfa-Bank, Russia’s largest commercial bank, due to sanctions. Previously, he was Minister of International Economics in the government of President Boris Yeltsin.
Recall that the EU imposed sanctions on the owners of Alfa Group Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven, as well as other Russian officials and businessmen.
