Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that due to the fact that the state has become part of the EU energy union, it will be able to export as much electricity there as it will help Europe to abandon the consumption of Russian coal and reduce gas consumption.
In mid-March, Ukraine joined the European network ENTSO-E ahead of schedule, the head of state recalled.
Shmyhal said this during a government meeting on May 24.
“It was planned that this would be possible not earlier than 2023, but the well-coordinated work of energy specialists, government bodies, diplomats – and we are already part of the energy European Union,” the prime minister said.
He said that Ukraine is already exporting its electricity to Europe. For example, in April electricity exports to Poland increased by 35% compared to pre-war January.
“By the end of the year, we plan to expand the capabilities of Ukrainian energy companies and will be able to export about 800 MW of electricity to the EU per day. This will help Europe to stop consuming Russian coal and reduce the consumption of Russian gas,” Shmyhal assured.
Recall, on May 13, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the government plans to achieve complete energy independence in order to independently provide for 100% of its own needs. First of all, we are talking about a significant increase in our own gas production.
