The Orthodox Church of Ukraine created its own monastery called “Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra”.
This decision was made “in order to overcome the consequences of the non-canonical subordination of this monastery to the authorities of the Moscow Patriarchate.”

“Given the special significance of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, as a shrine of all-Ukrainian and world significance, in order to overcome the consequences of the non-canonical subordination of this monastery to the authorities of the Moscow Patriarchate, at the suggestion of His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine. Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) religious organization “The Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (monastery) of the UOC,” the message says.
It is noted that the Charter of the organization has been approved and direct subordination to the Primate of the Orthodox Church, as one’s own Holy Archimandrite (rector), has been determined.
The Synod also asked the Primate to apply to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to transfer one of the churches of the Upper Lavra and some of its premises for use for worship and monastic activities of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the UOC (UCU).
Recall that Lithuania is asking Patriarch Bartholomew to help break away from the Moscow Patriarchate. Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte wrote a letter to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew . She expressed support to the government for the desire of part of the Orthodox in Lithuania to secede from the ROC.
