Serb Novak Djokovic, the first racket of the world, commented on the decision of Wimbledon-2022 to remove Russian and Belarusian tennis players from the tournament.
Djokovic condemned the decision of the organizers of the Grand Slam tournament. In his opinion, the ATP , WTA and ITF made a fair decision by depriving Wimbledon-2022 of rating points.
Moreover, the Serbian tennis player is so out of touch with reality that he invited the Ukrainians, Russians and Belarusians to play together in the doubles tournament.
“I’ve been talking to the ATP President and some of the board members over the past few days. I’m glad the players got together and showed that there was a mistake on the part of the Wimbledon organizers.
A few days ago I found out that there is a recommendation document from the British government, where there are several options. But the All England Club did not discuss anything with anyone – not with the ATP, not with the players, or, for that matter, with the Russians or Belarusians.
Representatives of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine could play in exhibition matches or mixed doubles, and the prize money would be sent to the victims in Ukraine. There were options, but no one considered them.
I think that there will be certain players who will be negative about everything and will complain more than others. This is a difficult situation, because it is difficult to say what is right and what is not. This is one of those decisions and situations where there will always be someone who will suffer more. It’s a lose-lose situation for everyone,” Djokovic told Eurosport.
Earlier, the ex-first racket of Ukraine Serhiy Stakhovsky was outraged by the decision to deprive Wimbledon of rating points. Ukrainian tennis player Oleksandr Dolgopolov also criticized the tennis community.
In turn, the organizers of Wimbledon-2022 have already reacted to the outrageous verdict of the ATP, WTA and ITF and stated that they had made the “only right decision” regarding Russian and Belarusian tennis players.
